Weathered and Worthy
We all deserved to feel seen
I started drawing women’s faces after a PTO meeting in 2018. Sitting in that room in our small, politically conservative town, I remember noticing how varied and textured the women were, nothing like the smooth skinned, doe eyed figures I often saw in mixed media art. That moment inspired me to begin drawing Weathered and Worthy Women, faces lined with experience, humor, exhaustion, resilience, and a kind of presence that feels earned.
When I prepared for a solo art show in 2020, traditional business cards felt out of step with my Creative ReUse practice. So I began making my own contact cards from fully upcycled materials and writing or stamping my website on the back.
Now, at every event I facilitate, I bring a box of my lovingly handmade cards to share. They have become part of a ritual; they are a small, tactile reminder that connection can come from what we overlook, and that our stories, like our materials, are never used up. It is my way of honoring my commitment to Nothing is Wasted.
